E-Action Final Oral Exam Spring 2010

Below are several questions and two conversation elements. In the final exam, I will call two students and ask them three questions each from the list below. Then, they will have two conversations, based on the elements below.

Midterm exam questions

We will schedule 8-10 students to arrive in class on April 19 and the other 8-10 students to arrive on April 21.

These students will be randomly paired up with a partner.

The two students will meet Brian at the front of the class or in the hallway and do the exam. When they are done, they go home, they do not return to talk to their friends. This is not to stop cheating but to reduce noise.

Video Diary: 3 videos, made in pairs.

Video #1: 45 to 90 seconds in length (1 %) Due: End of March

Video #2: 1 to 2 minutes in length (2%) Due: End of April

Video #3: 1:30 to 3:00 in length (4%) Due: May 25

Instructions: Videos should be interesting to you. Here are some suggestions:

Family, special hobbies, university life, club activities, best friend, boy-/girl- friend, interviewing friends, clothes, Korean culture, food, drink, favourite music/ band…

You should speak in each video but others can be involved.

You are welcome to rehearse and use notes in the video but you should not simply read your lines.

Be aware of the background noise and background activity before you start recording.

Do not sing unless you wrote the song.

If you use a Korean word, you should explain it – “I enjoy 검도. 검도 is a kind of sword fighting …”

Students should give their name and the date at the beginning and end of the recording. For example, “Hello Brian, this is __name__. Today is __date__ and I will talk about _topic_.”

Videos should be posted at a video hosting site, such as Youtube, Metacafe, Google Video, Screenr or other (Daum, Naver or cyworld are okay as well) and a link sent to your professor.

Grading your video journal. I want you to put real effort into these videos. I want clear communication (I do not need great English!) Prepare before you make the video and check for errors. Hand the video in on time and of the proper length and you will receive 100%
